Amazon Echo & Alexa Now Work With Iris

Amazon Alexa has joined the Next Generation Iris family! Using Amazon Echo or another Alexa-enabled device alongside Iris, you can turn on and dim lights, toggle a smart plug on/off, adjust your thermostats, and more with hands-free convenience through voice control. The result is a smarter, more accessible home.

Iris-Optimized Smart Home Skills
Smart Home Skills for Alexa offer the ability to control your home with your voice using the familiar Alexa Home Skills, which are immediately available for use. Here are a few examples to get you started:

  • Turn a light, fan, or Smart Plug on or off
“Alexa, turn on Living Room Lamp”
    “Alexa, turn off Bedroom Light”
  • Adjust the brightness of dimmer bulbs or switches
    “Alexa, brighten Kitchen Light”
“Alexa, set Theater Room Light to 50%”
  • Adjust the temperature on your thermostat
“Alexa, set Main Thermostat to 75 degrees”
“Alexa, increase Thermostat by 5 degrees”

Alexa uses the same device names set in the Iris by Lowe’s app to know which device to control. If you rename a device in Iris, you will need to tell Alexa to re-run device discovery to learn the new name: “Alexa, discover my devices.”
