Tips for Spring Cleaning Around the Home

Spring is in the air! It’s finally that time of the year to dust off the cobwebs and give your home the top-to-bottom cleaning it deserves.

Everyone wants to have a welcoming home, and the cleaner the better. If you plan on spending the time to tidy up this season, focus on the following to make your home as clean as it deserves.

Iris Help With Spring Cleaning

Add contact sensors to your windows and make sure you don’t leave your windows open. Program your air conditioning to turn on if temperatures start getting high. Use your smart thermostats wisely when choosing a consistent temperature.

Keep your lawn and garden watered with our sprinkler controller and water timer – these are perfect for scheduling when your plants will be watered for a specific time period. This way, you won’t have to worry about your plants and grass getting the water it needs while you’re away.

Doormats, Carpets and Area Rugs

An indication of having a clean home is having a clean doormat – this is what your visitors see first. Shake it out, brush it with a broom and then give it a good wash.

Fabrics absorb dirt all throughout Winter. To truly give your carpets and area rugs a thorough clean, invest and use a carpet or rug cleaner for a solid shampooing. Remove furniture so every area is covered. To speed up the drying process, open the windows to incorporate a natural dry.

Once carpets and rugs are cleaned, brighten your rooms and control your home’s lighting with the Iris lighting pack.

Walls, Cabinets and Appliances

Walls are often ignored and cabinets collect the most dust, so use a sponge and hand dishwashing detergent to give the surfaces a deep clean. Appliances are used the most – give your fridge, oven, microwave, dishwasher and other appliances the cleaning love they deserve.

With the increase in water use, protect your home before any expensive water damage with the water leak sensor.

Get To Vacuuming

Give the entire home a solid vacuuming. Everywhere from the living room to the bedrooms and the hallways. Don’t forget the small areas and knooks and crannys – move furniture aside to ensure you’re reaching every area possible.

Light/Ceiling Fixtures and Vents

Light fixtures, ceiling fixtures and air conditioning vents collect a substantial amount of dust. Remove dust and dirt from these areas with a cloth and vacuum inside for an extra touch.

Now that it gets darker later in the evening, update your schedules for lights by installing in-wall smart switches.

By including these tips in your Spring cleaning regimen, you’ll be on your way to an incredibly clean, welcoming home. Planning ahead and knowing what areas of the home you want to focus on and how to clean them will give you a leg up when it’s time to get to cleaning.
