Purchased this to replace a malfunctioning alarm in the house and I'm very happy I did.
It uses the same wires as the old system which made installation EASY; I just had to replace the baseplate.
Automatically interconnected with the four remaining alarms from the old system; if one goes off, they all do.
This weekend it correctly warned us that bad storms were in the area. It's voice was easy to understand. Wish I could make it talk louder, though; I don't know if it would wake us up.
I plan to replace the remaining alarms in the coming months with more of these and also it's cheaper sibling.
Love the android/apple application.
Hope I NEVER hear the fire alarms or carbon monoxide features. Glad that it detects smoke different ways.
Does it strike you as funny to buy something and hope you never need it?
Great for tornado warnings!

When I moved to a tornado prone area, I was shocked to be told that I should have a specialized radio that gave warnings when it was time to run for the basement (apparently using my smartphone for that wasn't the best way to go, because the delays in the network could cause the warning to come AFTER the event sometimes). This product is the IDEAL way to get those alerts. I installed mine two weeks ago and got my first alert yesterday. I was glad I wasn't depending on the weather app I used to use - I only got the cancellation of the tornado watch from it.
A few notes on the product:
I was initially confused about the "night light". The Halo app lets your turn the LED light on (and even make it change colors every second), but that is just some sort of novelty thing (my young kids love it when I turn it to "dance mode"). The normal operation, after the novelty mode times out automatically, is just a soft glow that isn't controllable by the user. That is your "night light".
You have to use the app to set it up for the alerts, so make sure you budget some time for that. You will want to carefully select which alerts you want, because it gives you a lot of choices and you could feel like you are being "spammed" if you just select all of them. I used the "would I want to know about this in the middle of the night" question as my test for whether to check the box.
This thing is actually made in the US!
The Halo app will remind you to test the unit every week. You can do the test from your phone, which is awesome because that means you don't need to get a ladder or a stick to push a button. They also include a countdown so you can get away from the thing and not get your eardrums blasted. I rarely tested my old-school detectors because I didn't want to assault my ears (I guess I could have gotten my hearing protection from the garage, but I never did)
You can label your detectors so that if there is a smoke event you will hear "2nd floor" or whatever location you entered. That is very helpful for a fire situation where every second counts. Given that it has detectors for both slow burning and fast burning fires, I feel like it gives me a much better chance of getting to the fire early and putting it out with my extinguisher, rather than being in a situation where I can only run for the door and wait for the fire department.
Awesome product and customer service

I bought 3 of these units for my residence. I ran into complications installing them and promptly called customer support. Josh and his team aggressively tackled the problem and never gave up until it was resolved. It turns out the issue was on my end with my wiring. The product is well made and the latest in technology for alarms. The i phone app is easy to use and works great.
