Easy to program and control from smart phone. Make sure you get a smart switch or two if it is far away from hub to help with deception
No Problems Here

I have an Iris home system with about 35 devices, operating for roughly 4 years. My success rate with installing new components has been good, with the exception of the indoor camera and the clamp on electrical meter reader (which I returned). I purchased the Orbit unit after the new hub was released, not knowing that the capability was not built into the nextgen app. I almost returned it, but decided to wait.
Finally, the Lawn & Garden feature was added and I connected the Orbit to the hub inside the house with nothing connected. I had read all the bad reviews and didn't want to waste time installing if it didn't work. It took a little time to get it connected, lost connections a few times, but within a day or so it straightened out. I kept it this way for two months, and all worked fine. Finally in April, I installed it outside on the back wall of my Stucco house, put a range extender on the inside wall as close as possible, and it has worked fine ever since. Enclosure is well built. Programming was easy set-up and to change (varying water restrictions in CA).
I really like the product and recommend it to others.
Don't believe all the negative reviews

I was anxious about buying the Orbit controller after reading so many negative reviews. One day I decided to ignore the review and purchased one at my local Lowes. I've had the controller running for a week and am happy to report no problems. The reviews that mention the A B C programming issues are obviously written by users that don't understand that Iris takes complete control of the unit. That's a very good thing.
The programming options are many. By the week with different schedules daily combined with up to four sequences per day is possible. If you prefer more of an interval schedule, then you can set it to run every 7th day, 5th day, etc. There's always the option to water manually in addition to the programming. Flower bed looking a little dry, no problem, just a couple of click on the Iris app.
To get started, I first plugged the unit in close to my Iris hub which quickly paired. The system then upgraded the firmware. I hired a professional to install and wire, although if you are experienced with wiring, this should not be necessary. The unit quickly reconnected which locks all controls and buttons on the unit itself. I locked the case on the controller and haven't had to touch the actual unit since.
For a week, this has worked like a charm. It will control up; to 12 zones; I only have 3. Each zone can be programmed by the day, week, interval. A sequence is a series of watering events - front grass, back grass, flowers, trees, etc - whatever you label the zones. You can water some or all of them in a sequence. You can do this up to 4 times per day, each sequence is customizable for each zone and number of minutes to water.
The rain delay feature is nice. When it rains, you simply click the rain delay button on the app and specify how long you want Iris to delay watering.
Love this timer!
